FREDERIK STØVRING OLSEN

is forging a multifaceted career in conducting, leadership in the arts, teaching and speaking. He is currently acting as a freelance conductor, teacher in conducting at The Royal Danish Academy of Music (Copenhagen, DK), Artistic Producer at Copenhagen Opera Festival and Artistic Director of the chamber music and recital festival Klassisk Efterår Tølløse (Tølløse, Zealand, DK)

Frederik has conducted and worked with almost all major professional orchestras and ensembles in Denmark for the last 10+ and with orchestras in Germany, Sweden, Czech Republic and USA.

Frederik's past positions include Music Director of Sankt Annæ Youth Symphony Orchestra (Copenhagen, DK), Music Director of the oratorio society Pro Musica Copenhagen and Assistant Conductor of The Missouri Symphony Orchestra (US).

As Artistic Director and founder of the chamber music and recital festival ‘Klassisk Efterår Tølløse’, Frederik has succeeded in creating a popular festival in the small village where he resides with his family. Each year he creates an exciting program including chamber music, recitals, family concerts, talent concerts and talks.

 

A staunch advocate for music education, Frederik has been mentoring, helping and teaching the young generation of classical musicians in Denmark. From 2008 to 2022 he worked at Sankt Annæ Gymnasium in Copenhagen. Sankt Annæ Gymnasium is the place to be as a young musician with many students continuing to the music conservatoires and colleges in Denmark and in the rest of Scandinavia. In 2023 Frederik joined the conducting faculty at The Royal Danish Academy of Music (Copenhagen, DK) teaching ensemble conducting on both bachelor- and masterlevel.
Frederik has founded his own online teaching portal, www.onlineconducting.com where he teach orchestral conducting to students from all over the world, including US, China, Israel, Iceland, Cyprus, UK, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Denmark. Many of his students study or have studied at places as Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.

Since 2018 Frederik has been giving talks covering topics as leadership in music and on a more personal level on the ups and downs as a father to a child with special needs.

Frederik Støvring Olsen earned a Master of Music degree in trumpet performance at The Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen and a Advanced Postgraduate degree in orchestral conducting (equivalent a Doctor of Musical Arts) from The Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen under the tutelage of Giancarlo Andretta, Giordano Bellincampi and Michael Schønwandt. For six years Frederik studied with Kirk Trevor privately and in workshops in New York City, Slovakia and Czech Republic.

Frederik has attended many workshops led by some of the world's finest teachers and maestros, including Benjamin Zander, Kirk Trevor, Jorma Panula, Kenneth Kiesler, Donald Schleicher, Lior Shambadal, Carlos Moreno and many others.

Curious about all aspects of the world of classical music, Frederik combines his artistic work with the position as Artistic Producer at Copenhagen Opera Festival and on top of his artistic education he also has a Diploma in Cultural Leadership from The Danish National School of Performing Arts (Copenhagen).

In 2012 Olsen was awarded the ”Arne Hammelboe Education Scholarship” from the Danish Conductors Association.
